Parylene Applications

A Proven and Trusted Technology

Since the commercial introduction of Parylene more than 50 years ago, the ultra-thin polymer film coating has been used to solve a multitude of challenges protecting, strengthening, and enhancing devices and substrates across a wide spectrum of applications and industries.

Advanced Coating has decades of experience meeting specialized coating needs by means of vacuum deposition technology and has been involved in successful coating projects in areas such as:

High-Risk Electronics

  • Printed Circuit Boards and Circuit Assemblies
  • Sensors & RF Components and Devices
  • SMT and Hybrid Circuit Assemblies
  • MEMs Devices
  • Motor Assemblies in Harsh Environments
  • Rigid Circuits
  • Flexible Circuits
  • Fiber Optic Components

Parylene offers dielectric and environmental protection at very thin coating thickness, protects, and stabilizes delicate features, and works effectively with minimal added mass.

Military & Defense

  • Ground, Air, and Aerospace Vehicles
  • Robotic and Drone Systems
  • Unmanned Aircraft and Aerospace Platforms
  • Field Computers
  • Electronic Circuits
  • Navigation Equipment
  • Radar Devices
  • Munitions and Weapons
  • Guidance Systems

Resistant to corrosion, salt water, jet fuels, chemicals, solvents, and acid and alkaline products, our Parylene coatings are approved for military and defense applications, classified under the QPL for Military/Defense, and meet all IPC-CC-830 requirements.

Medical Device Technology

  • Needles
  • Prosthetic Devices
  • Implantable Components
  • Catheters
  • Electrodes
  • Drug Eluding Stents
  • Epidural Probes
  • Cannula Assemblies

Parylene is an inert, biocompatible (USP Class VI), bio-stable, lubricious, moisture-resistant coating that withstands most sterilization methods.  Parylene removes tackiness from silicone rubber and elastomeric materials and is recognized on the FDA Drug Master File.

Aviation & Aerospace

  • Deep Space Vision Systems
  • Fly-by-Wire Avionic Systems
  • Navigation and Controls
  • Drones
  • Optical Devices
  • Landing Gear and Flight Control Systems
  • Tin Whisker Mitigation
  • Satellite and Flight Deck Control

Light-weight Parylene functions under rugged vacuum conditions and extreme temperatures and has been proven in multiple spaceflights and aviation applications around and out of this world.  Parylene has been proven superior at Tin Whisker Mitigation and works to NASA-STD-8739.

Industrial & Commercial

  • Electronic Circuits
  • Automated Controls
  • Sensors
  • Coil Forms and Ferrites
  • Silicon Wafers
  • LEDs
  • Digital Displays
  • Silicone Keypads

Parylene resists high temperatures, hydrocarbons, corrosive gases, and direct contact with most acids, bases, and solvents, and it seals surfaces against moisture, soils, oils, and dust.

Elastomers

  • Silicone Keypads
  • Molded and Extruded Components
  • Rubber Hoses and Tubes
  • O-Rings
  • Seals
  • Gaskets

Parylene bonds well to most elastomer materials, is inert, adds lubricity, removes tackiness, does not interfere with substrate elasticity or hardness, and adds high dielectric value with minimal dimensional change.
